About The Artist
Eva Bachmann's artist's book, Halesworth, An Alternative Guide, was launched at The Cut in October 2025.
Eva Bachmann took part in The Summer Project held at The Cut in 2024.
From that residency came Halesworth, An Alternative Guide, an artist’s book photo essay. To mark the publication (11/10/25) of the book Eva lead a group of people on an Artist’s Walk around Halesworth visiting the locations of images in the book.
A slide show of images from Halesworth, An Alternative Guide may be viewed on Eva’s webpage, along with further exaples of her creative practice.
This series offers an observation from the perspective of an outsider, aiming to reveal the specificity of place. It focuses on subtle, and sometimes humorous, interactions between the built environment and its surroundings.
Rather than highlighting well-known landmarks or natural beauty, the images draw attention to spatial nuances and often overlooked details, that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Some moments are tied to a particular time of day; others stand out for their unconventional or almost performative appearance. Together, they form a visual fabric that defines the place through my personal lens.
Rooted in a subjective experience, the images are intended to resonate with both those familiar with the area and those intrigued by the less conventional portrayal of a place.
The images were originally presented as a slideshow during the residency’s Open Day. Since then, I’ve created an A5 booklet featuring 36 images alongside a map of Halesworth.
