Graham Giles

About The Artist

I want to share that excitement through the discoveries I make with “the oleous paste in its sticky inconvenience” in Lawrence Gowing's memorable description of paint.

Graham Giles exhibited in agroup show at The Cut, August/September, 2006.

His work was also included in the online only exhibition, FIGURATIVELY SPEAKING, which was curated by The Cut during the pandemic lockdowns 2020/21.

Graham Giles is a painter to his fingertips. He embraces landscape in a physical way, feeling its rhythms and presence. He empathises with water, trees or rocks, the way he paints expressive and in tune with his feelings
Anthony Eyton RA

When I paint I like to immerse myself directly in my landscape subject-matter despite all the practical difficulties of working out of doors.
In fact the changing weather and light (and goats clambering over fences) is what makes painting vivid and alive for me: I am turned on by what the world looks like and feels like, and I want to share that excitement through the discoveries I make with “the oleous paste in its sticky inconvenience” in Lawrence Gowing’s memorable description of paint. I have no interest in copying photographs.
