Jenny Creasy

About The Artist

Creasy’s paintings begin in recollection and are completed by judgement in the privacy of the studio, where forms are often lively, curious, repeated or contradictory, with a palette that plays many a colourful melody.

Jenny Creasy exhibited in a shared show with Roger Ackling in August/September, 2010, and her work was included in the Contemporary Masters from the East of England exhibition held at The Cut in 2017.

Work for that exhibition was drawn from the Priseman-Seabrook Collection of 21st Century British Painting.

Jenny Creasy went to Ealing Art  School 1957-62 and was taught amongst others by Frank Auerbach, Bernard Cohen and Roy Ascott.

In particular through her husband Brian Wall she met the St. Ives based artists Roger & Rose Hilton, Patrick Heron, Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth. These contacts became a touchstone for the development of her work as she moved from an expressive figuration to the full abstraction of her later work.

Jenny worked mainly in a 2m sq format and also worked on paper and wooden door panels 30cms square.

‘……Creasy’s paintings begin in recollection and are completed by judgement in the privacy of the studio, where forms are often lively, curious, repeated or contradictory, with a palette that plays many a colourful melody. The artist’s eye and brush have passed from daily world of business and routine to an aesthetic realm. Thus they are all the more moving, and intangible, because we feel that they have come from Creasy’s soul.’ Tim Hilton

I have always regarded drawing as my way of coming to grips with an idea on the assumption that if I can generate a satisfactory graphic solution, I shall have reached a more complete understanding of its subject.
