Simon Newby manipulates modular objects and
materials to create works that play with pattern
and movement within two and three-dimensional
spaces. Diverse materials are altered or
concealed, triggering new ambiguous surfaces
and forms.

Underpinned by a haphazard linearity, his
sculptures have been imagined as drawings in
space. In these fleeting sketches, once
functional objects and materials slip between the
rational and ridiculous, in various states of
completion. They begin to offer up a visually
enticing logic of their own, which is awkward,
unsettling and usually quite funny.
Simon Newby has a degree in Fine Art Painting
from the University of Brighton and an MA in
Sculpture from the Royal Collage of Art, London.
Recent shows include Tele Vision Picture Story
Book, a solo show at OUTPOST Project space,
Norwich, 2022 and Flat Work, a group show at
Solid Haus, Melton, Suffolk, 2021. Simon has
been an OUTPOST studio member for over 13
years and lives and works in Norwich
