Exhibition Description
Curated by Amanda Geitner An Appetite for Risk was at The Cut September/October 2018.
The show brought together six UK artists whose practices foreground experimentation and material risk:
Susan Gunn — layered gesso/encaustic paintings with deliberate cracking and fragile surfaces.
Lee Grandjean — expressive works and object-sculptures (e.g., trolley sculptures, painted “bombed-out buildings” pieces) that mix media and risk bold combinations.
Elizabeth Merriman — still lifes that take compositional/technique risks.
Nessie Stonebridge — nature-inspired paintings often with wooden extensions or attached elements that play with presentation and balance.
Craig Hudson — figurative work and mixed-media pieces using re-used plaster fragments and other found elements.
Chris Taylor — experimental ceramics/pots with distressed imagery and layered surfaces.
